Haptonomy, womb connection, emotional communication with foetus

Womb Connection / Haptonomy

In Sanskrit, Yoni means the “womb”, and Bandha means the “lock”, the “bond”. Yoni Bandha is offering you an opportunity to bond, to connect physically and emotionally with your child in utero.

Birth Preparation Through Emotional Communication

Although Haptonomy has been a trusted approach in Europe for years, it is a relatively new concept for many American parents. Here are some frequently asked questions about this beautiful practice:

Haptonomy? I’ve never heard of it before. What does it mean?

The word haptonomy comes from the Greek words hapto (to touch) and nomos (the rules). It can be loosely translated as the science of touching.

How does a touch-based practice work if my baby is still in the womb?

That is the beauty of haptonomy – through this approach, we will use the sense of touch to build an emotional connection between you and your child while they are still in utero. You will learn gentle, external sensory techniques that will help foster your growing bond with your unborn baby.

It sounds interesting! What are the benefits?

The development of this connection has long-term benefits for both of you: you will be able to better recognize and respond to your child’s physical and emotional cues, and you will be more in tune with their unique personality. Most importantly, haptonomy lays the foundation for secure attachment and bonding that will last well beyond infancy.

Can my partner participate?

Yes! All too often, partners can feel disconnected from the birthing process because they are not the ones giving birth. Haptonomy provides partners and their babies with powerful bonding opportunities that they may not otherwise experience prior to delivery.

What else is covered during haptonomy sessions?

We will also address pain management during labor and childbirth, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the three of you: birth giver, birth partner, and child. You will learn to trust your body, your child, and yourself, allowing you to prepare for this incredible journey with a sense of security and peace of mind.

Our ultimate goal is to create a safe and secure environment for your child in this world, beginning with securing your role as parents. You are the first link between your child and their future life outside the womb. What happens now, in their first months of existence, can have a great influence on the person they will become.
